Wedding Reception Venue Ideas

Your personal taste, wedding budget and planned wedding date will influence which reception venue you choose for your wedding. Here are some wedding reception venue ideas:

The majority of wedding receptions take place at a hotel. Hotels often have the licence for civil weddings too so that those opting for a non-religious wedding can have their ceremony and reception in the same place. Hotels can have glorious grounds in which to host a wedding including lakeside, riverside, country gardens and sea views. Wedding breakfasts at hotels can be a sit down meal or buffet with many couples having a meal in the afternoon and buffet in the evening. Resident DJ's make hotels a good place to have an evening disco and built in sound systems often mean that you have the option to hire your own music/band.

Converted Barn

Converted barns can be beautiful rustic venues in which to hold a wedding either formal or informal. With many now able to carry out the marriage service too, barns are increasing in popularity. Those having their service at a church or religious venue may choose a barn for their wedding reception. Many barn conversions are part of farmland and some may allow guest camping in the grounds or have accommodation available. Perfect for a party, barns can provide a great atmosphere for evening entertainment.

Castle or Palace

If you want a fairytale wedding in a castle, stately home or historic house, your wedding reception it likely to cost you more than average. The grounds can be spectacular as can the reception rooms where fine dining can be expected for your wedding breakfast. If going for somewhere like Hampton Court or Blenheim Palace, remember that as public houses your wedding party may not be the only ones in the grounds that day.

Stately Home or Historic House

Often a little cheaper than a castle or palace, stately homes and historic houses can provide an innovative and beautiful setting for your wedding. As with other venues, many offer civil ceremonies and will allow you to choose your theme for the reception rooms.

Hiring a marquee means that you can have your wedding reception in a lovely country location. Perhaps by the sea, in a field or pub garden appeals to you. If you have a big enough garden, or have a relative that does, marquees can also be ideal for home weddings.

Marquees are perfect for buffet style reception food but can also be formal venues for a sit down meal.

Many hotels also have the option to use a marquee in the summer months so that you can have more of an outdoor/ garden wedding.

Alternative Wedding Venues

Other wedding venue ideas include leisure complexes, sports grounds, pump rooms, ball rooms, botanical gardens, zoos, sailing clubs and university colleges. So if there is something you have in mind check it out.
