Depending on how involved the Bride and Groom want the Mother Of The Bride to be, she'll usually assist them with some of the wedding preparations such as choosing the venue; helping with the guest list and seating plan; sending out the invitations; organising the gift list; and liaising with any caterers.  In particular, the Mother Of The Bride may accompany the Bride when choosing her dress and the Bridesmaids' dresses.

On the wedding morning she may be there to help the Bride get into her dress and get ready. She will travel with the Bridesmaids to the ceremony where she will sit in the left hand front row. She may then travel to the wedding reception with the Bride's father. At the wedding reception the Mother Of The Bride tends to stand in line with the rest of the wedding party to greet the guests.

After the Bride and Groom have had the first dance, the Mother Of The Bride will usually hit the floor with the Bride's father. At the end of the evening she may need to help the Bride get changed from her wedding dress to her going away dress. She may also be taking the Bride and Groom's presents and cake home to look after until they return from honeymoon.
